Latest Report about Baidoa Primary and Secondary School
Baidoa Primary and Secondary School is the largest school run by Horn of Africa Aid in terms of the number of students and teachers and in terms of the school building. The school uses an old building owned by the government’s Ministry of Education and was destroyed by the civil war. The school was rebuilt and rehabilitated by HAA and has 20 functioning classes and a hall for school activities.
All staff and administrators in the school have received training in their field during 2011, and there have been discussions with them in the best ways to develop and improve their school. Number of recommendations has been agreed including giving more emphasis on the quality of education in the educational processes.
In spite of the difficult conditions experienced by the people living in this area of the country in which the school is located, including the 2011 drought and famine that has caused the destruction of lives and people’s harvests, the school recorded a remarkable growth in the number of students compared to last year (774 students for 2011 compared to 725 in 2010). The famine caused a large displacement among people in the area which reflected negatively on the number of students enrolled in schools in general.
The new improvement in the school this year is the set up of a computer laboratory. The laboratory consists of 15 machines and is equipped with all the tools necessary for the laboratory. The aim of this contribution is to reduce the level of computer literacy in the school and to help contribute the teaching of certain subjects that would not be possible without the laboratory.
