Sh Hassan Barsane Primary and Secondary School in Jowhar has improved

Sheikh Hassan Barsane primary and Secondary School is located in Jowhar, the capital city of Middle Shabelle region. This part of the country is an agricultural area known to be low in the list in terms of schools and educational activities.

The school uses an old building owned by the Ministry of Education of the former government and it has been rebuilt and renovated by HAA for this purpose and consists of 15 classrooms. The school has made a remarkable improvement during 2011 as a result of the introduction of new input, such as: hiring new highly qualified teachers, improving the school environment including the renovation of halls and refurbishing classrooms and school offices, and increasing the extra-curricular activities.

These improvement plus the cooperation of HAA and the school management has resulted the increase of the number of students from 248 in 2010 to 445 in 2011, which is equivalent to more than 80% increase. To improve the overall performance of the school teachers and administrators have received trainings in their respective fields during 2011 academic year.
