Teacher Training Programme

Horn of Africa AidHAA is always seeking high quality education in its schools located in different parts of Somalia and this can be achieved by providing continuous training to its teachers to equip them with the most adequate and up to date knowledge in educational techniques that is available in the country.

In 2009 HAA teacher training project was focusing on the curriculum and teaching methods. In 2010 HAA teacher training programme has continued using the same technique of focusing one subject every year. The subject that was proposed by the teachers and head teachers as the training programme for 2010 was dealing with the Understanding of Child Psychology from childhood to adolescence.

Since students represent the main focus and cornerstone in education processes, studies on the stages of growth and development of student and the characteristics of each stage is one of the most important aspects of day to day education of students that teachers need to understand, so that they will be able to achieve their educational objectives as best as they can.

Two teacher training programmes were held in Mogadishu and Borama. Mogadishu training was held on 3-7 July 2010 and was attended by 30 teachers from all HAA schools in the south (Baidoa School, Sheikh Hassan Barsane School in Jowhar and Dhobley School in Lower Juba). The Borama training was held on 18-22 July 2010 and was attended by 26 teachers from HAA schools in the north (Salahuddin School in Bur’o, Iftin School in Las Anod and Amal School in Borame).

One of the most important characteristics of the training sessions was that they were dynamic and positive and participants were actively involved in all kinds of discussions which the topics of the programme have covered. They have asked questions to trainers and fully participated in organised group works and committees.

Finally, questionnaires were distributed among participants and demonstrated that they have gained tremendous benefits during the training sessions and requested continuation of such programmes in the future.

During the training programme there were other activities that have been held on the sidelines of sessions including special meetings between HAA and school Head Teachers in which it was discussed the ways to develop HAA school activities and workshops to improve the financial performance and administration of schools.
